Sin

Part A:

Self-reflection and Healing

Instructions

Journal Activity:

Students are required to spend time reflecting on a past event when they felt hurt by an individuals actions. After self-reflecting students are to write a journal entry; you may write about what happened, how it made you feel and the effect it had upon your relationship with the person who hurt you.

Students will be allocated 5 minutes to complete this activity and students are required to work in silence.

Students are to anonymously write on a piece of paper a note to someone in the class which they wish to ask for forgiveness.

This can include students apologising and reflecting upon their actions which may have hurt another class mate.

A box will be passed around the class and students are to close the paper and place it within the box.

The activity will be concluded by the teacher reading out selected letters from the box. While, students are required to act in a respectful and forgiving manner to demonstrate the importance of reconciliation and forgiveness in everyday life.

Part B:

Questions

As a class students will read the parable Matthew 18:23-35 “The unmerciful Servant.”

Following this the teacher will present to students a video, which is a modern interpretation of the parable.

Activity:

Students are to create a scenario of an offender committing a sin to his neighbour, such offences could include; bullying, lying and stealing. In response to this sin students are to further role-play the process of attaining forgiveness and reconciliation from both the victim and God.

In order to complete the role-play and ensure participation by all, the teacher will assign specific roles to the students.

These roles include:

2 actors (1 student will reenact the sin while the other will play the victim.)

1 director  (Will ensure all students are on track and will direct the play)

2 script writers (write the script for the two actors to perform)

Students are to than present their play in front of the class.
